During the winter months, it's easy to feel drained with shorter days, colder weather and mounting stress. By prioritizing mental well-being and staying optimistic, we can be more present and engaged with our loved ones. For me as a dad, spending quality time with my two boys is a top priority. Whether it's playing games indoors, playing in the snow, or reading a good book about tractors or cows, making memories together helps us stay connected and uplifted even in the gloom of those cold winter days. Through teaching my boys life lessons and being present for them, I have learned some valuable lessons that can easily apply to adults facing daunting stress that weighs heavy on our shoulders.

It's important to teach our kids that it's okay to feel sad or anxious sometimes and to ask for help when needed. As a man, it can be hard to open up and ask for help but is a true sign of strength when a man is self-aware and cares enough about those around him to know he needs outside help. By modeling healthy coping mechanisms and seeking support when needed, we can teach our kids valuable lessons about resiliency and delegation.

As someone with a type-A personality, delegating tasks can be challenging. However, we can shift our mindset by recognizing that delegation is not a sign of weakness, but rather a strategic decision to optimize productivity. Whether it be managing my family's cattle operation or growing my mindset coaching business, RanchFIT, bringing those on board who can do certain jobs better than me has been essential to my success and has played a major role in reducing my stress load.

Delegating tasks is crucial to long-term success because it allows individuals to focus on their strengths and expertise while empowering others to develop their skills and contribute to the overall success of the team or mission. By delegating tasks effectively, individuals can prioritize their workload, increase efficiency, and ensure that all tasks are completed on time. Delegating also fosters a sense of trust and collaboration within a team, as team members can rely on each other to accomplish their goals.

Additionally, delegating tasks allows for better time management, improved decision-making, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, all of which are critical for long-term success in any endeavor. As a result, no matter what our job title is or what business we own, we will have more time to work on the business and not just in it. In fact, if we aren’t delegating regularly, we are more than likely minimizing the impact we could have on those around us!

These principles don’t just apply to business. Are we delegating tasks to our family when we need help? Are we reaching out to our friends when we could use a hand? As someone who has struggled to delegate over the years, I can tell you that learning to delegate will reduce your stress and provide the much-needed mental freedom to make better decisions.

Overall, taking care of my mental health benefits not only myself but also my children and those I interact with regularly. By prioritizing my well-being and staying positive, I can be the best dad and husband possible for my boys and wife. I challenge you daily to carve out some time to be present with those you love. Remember, our kids are always watching our every move even when we don't think they are!

I wear many hats while in pursuit of my passions, including serving as a Christian husband, father, Kansas rancher, men’s mindset coach, Army National Guard officer, consultant, and endurance athlete.
