What affect will this winter’s weather have on calving?

Will severe winter weather impact calf birth weight? This question has long been asked, but Oklahoma State emeritus animal scientist Glenn Selk admits given the complexity of its nature, only limited research has been conducted, according to the Oklahoma Farm Report.

What studies have been done though, suggest that yes, cold temperatures influence calf birth weight. Based on the research, below average winter temperatures resulted in larger birth weight calves and more calving difficulty.
