I found Shawn Walter last week at the 2015 Cattle Industry Convention, and he showed me some exciting potentials in the new stocker cattle management system from Professional Cattle Consultants.

One of the most difficult things for many stocker operators is calculating real cost of gain as they buy and blend cattle to make saleable groups. Many times, some of the cattle in a sales group have been through three or four sorts. Some might have been on the place many months or some for only a few weeks or even a few days.

This private-cloud based system will track actual costs per animal forward with calves throughout the entire ownership period and through sales. Stocker operators can then back-sort for economics, or drug regimen effectiveness, or supplement type or cost, or sickness and performance based on source. And the program can do more. The actual data accumulated and/or used is completely customizable by the user.
