The comment period is now open for the Origin of Livestock proposed rule first published in 2015.
The proposed rule applies to dairy animals under USDA organic regulations.
On Oct. 1, 2019, the National Organic Program reopened the public comment period. The comment period is open for 60 days, through Dec. 2, 2019.
The proposed rule would change the requirements related to origin of livestock under the USDA organic regulations. The National Organic Program received 1,580 public comments during the original comment period in 2015. USDA will consider public comments in developing a final rule. This includes comments from 2015 and from the 2019 comment period.
Reopening the public comment period gives people who did not submit a comment in 2015 a chance to submit comments. Also, people are allowed to submit updated information.
