Beef business pioneer, Martin F. Jorgensen, Jr., passes

Beef genetics pioneer and patriarch of the number 1 operation in BEEF’s Seedstock 100 list of the largest seedstock operations in the U.S., Martin F. Jorgenson, Jr., has passed.

“Martin’s many achievements over the course of his career have been recognized by many. The results of many of those achievements will be enjoyed by many generations to come,” his son, Bryan, wrote about his dad. “But, among his greatest achievements were the principles that he instilled in those closest to him.”

Jorgensen, 95, of Ideal, S.D., was born on April 30, 1924, and passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at the Winner Regional Long-Term Care Facility in Winner, S.D. There was a Celebration of Life for Martin on August 18 at the Saint Mary’s Hall in Winner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2019, from 6-7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
