Wildlife And Cattle Can Coexist

Video-Wildlife And Cattle Can Coexist

Ken Cearley, a former rancher and now a wildlife specialist with Texas AgriLife Extension Service, is often asked if livestock production and a wildlife enterprise such as a hunting lease can coexist on the same ranch. Not only is the answer yes, he says, but cattle are very complimentary to wildlife. The decision the landowner needs to make is where on the continuum between exclusively livestock and exclusively wildlife the operation wants to be. Once that decision is made, then grazing plans can be formulated to achieve the production goals for the ranch.
