Doc Hatfield, Country Natural Beef Founder, Passes

Doc Hatfield, a veterinarian who, along with his wife Connie, was the founding and driving force behind the Country Natural Beef (CNB) cooperative, passed away on Tuesday from pancreatic cancer.

The Hatfields, who operate High Country Ranch in Brothers, OR, were awarded BEEF magazine’s 2009 Trailblazer Award for their initiative and leadership in founding and guiding CNB for more than 20 years. The couple retired to a less active role in 2009, and Doc was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer later that year. He will be missed and remembered as an industry leader, visionary and gentleman; we wish Connie, their family, and the CNB family our deepest condolences.

Or, you can hear the Hatfields tell the CNB story in their own words here.

In addition, here’s a video of Doc reciting a poem he and his daughter penned.
