It’s Time To Show Us Your HATitude®!

I spent yesterday at the 66th Annual South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Convention & Trade Show. I enjoyed listening to speakers on genomics, estate planning, consumer insights, national issues, farm safety and the markets. Aside from the presentations, I always love visiting with fellow cattle producers and reconnecting with old friends in the industry.

At every cattlemen’s meeting, you can count on seeing a lot of cowboy hats. With every hat is a rancher with a unique personality and a unique story. Some are young and eager to dive into the business. Others are seasoned with decades of experience and an interest in protecting their legacy for the next generation. Then, there are those in between who are looking to expand; and all seem to be enjoying the higher prices of late.

It’s fun to visit with folks who have a common interest but also maybe see the industry in a different light. I encourage you to attend a cattlemen’s meeting down the road to recharge your batteries and get new ideas to bring back to your operation.

In our new photo contest, sponsored by Greeley Hat Works, we are capturing the dynamic personalities of ranchers in rural America with our theme, “Show Us Your HATitude®.”

We are already receiving some outstanding photo entries from readers. I’m enjoying the wide range of photographs -- from the itty bitty baby in Dad’s cowboy hat to the seasoned rancher saving a calf during a blizzard. Our readers are doing a great job of capturing the HATitude® of the special people in your life.
