NEW photo contest celebrating spring begins today!

It’s been a snowy couple of days in my neck of the woods, and it appears that March plans to come in like a lamb and out like a lion. While the snow and sleet hasn’t been a welcome addition to calving season, I know that soon more temperate, sunny spring weather will be here, and we’ll soon have pastures greening up in anticipation for the summer grazing season.

This is the official first week of spring, and to kick off the new season, we are starting a new photo contest called, “Celebrating Spring.” We are looking for images of spring on the ranch — cow-calf pairs, steers bellied up in the feedlot, horseback rides with family members, green pastures, spring flowers abloom, kids playing outside, or ranch families enjoying the nice weather, just to name a few ideas.

To enter, simply email me at [email protected] with your image, a title or caption, name and address to be eligible to win.

One entry per person please. (Helpful hint: if you have several you would like to submit, please enter them under a family member’s name.) For complete contest rules, click here.

We will be accepting entries until noon on Thursday, March 31, and we will announce our finalists on Monday, April 4. From there, we will once again have readers vote for their favorites to determine our champion photographers. Voting will run through April 11, and the winners will be announced on April 12.

With this new and exciting contest, we have lined up some awesome prizes! The grand champion photographer will receive a $100 VISA gift card, and the reserve photographer will take home a $50 VISA gift card. Plus, we will be giving away BEEF art prints to every finalist, as well as three randomly selected voters.

Be sure to check back on Monday’s BEEF Daily, where I will post the “Celebrating Spring” photo gallery. We will be updating the photo gallery daily with new readers’ photo submissions, so check back often. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! Thanks for your participation, and happy spring!
