Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 01, 2013, a leading marketplace for coupons and deals, today announced the results of a newly commissioned Trend Report on the shopping behavior of young adults for the upcoming Halloween holiday. The study was sent to young adults aged 18-34 and asked specific questions about their Halloween spending and shopping habits.

Key findings include:
-  26% plan to purchase their costumes online
-  49% use promo codes when purchasing costumes online
-  57% stated their decision to purchase a costume was effected by the availability of a retailer’s coupon code
-  The most important factors when buying a costume online were overall price (85%) and free shipping offers (71%)
-   Uniqueness of the costume was most important factor for buying a costume (42%)

Consumers are expected to spend an estimated $2.6 billion on costumes alone based on a study by the National Retail Federation; however, the state of the economy will impact their spending as 86.1% plan to spend less than they did last year. The Trend Report by bluepromocode shows consumers are planning to spend $38 for costumes, on average, and $27 on decorations this year, and nearly half are expecting to use online coupon codes. 57% are making purchase decisions based on an available coupon code and 71% listed free shipping as an important factor in their buying decision.

“This report continues to support how consumer behavior is dramatically changing,” says Michael Quoc, founder and CEO of “Consumers are more price-conscious even on lower-priced and more disposal items such as Halloween costumes.”

The study also shows that 59% of consumers wait until the final week to purchase their costumes and most complaints were about costumes were too expensive and were of poor quality.
