Cattle Market Wrap Up | Feeders see an uptick

Cattle Market Wrap-up
Feeder cattle prices saw an uptick after a holiday-shortened week.

Feeder cattle volume increased, which is normal after a big holiday week. The prices were mostly $2-$3 per cwt higher, continuing to go up again and gaining quite a bit during the last four weeks.

The slaughter cow numbers rebounded and there were 5,600 head at the test auctions, which was over 1,000 head higher than the previous week when several auctions were still shut down for the holiday. Slaughter cow prices slipped on that bigger volume and were mostly $2-$4 per cwt lower even though the cow meat prices firmed just a little bit.
