Cattle Market Wrap-up: Prices react to fall run

Article-Cattle Market Wrap-up: Prices react to fall run

Cattle Market Wrap-up
Feeder and cull cow prices are firmly in the fall run.

There was another good run of feeder cattle with 30,300 head at the test auctions, but numbers were much lower than last year. The prices continue to drop with heavier weight yearlings mostly $3-$4 per cwt lower. The lighter-weight yearlings and calves were steady to $13 lower. Feedyards continue to be selective buyers with more fleshy and unweaned calves pushing the prices lower.

The slaughter cow volume is getting much larger, which is normal during the fall. There were 11,100 head at the test auctions, which was the largest number in a long time. The slaughter cow prices continue to slip lower and were mostly $1-$3 per cwt lower following the cow meat prices which are also trending lower.
