Cow prices continue to drop

It wasn't a positive week in terms of prices for slaughter cows or feeder cattle, and in turn, volume was down.

Feeder cattle numbers at the auctions continued to drop lower on the heels of lower prices with only 21,600 head at the test auctions. Prices were mostly $3-8 lower, but the lowest prices were set early in the week then firmed up a little on Wednesday.

Slaughter cow numbers dropped lower with 4,400 head at the test auctions which was down about 2000 head compared to the previous week. Cow prices were $8-11 lower again this week; they have dropped about $20 lower in the last two weeks.
