Daily Choice cutout continues climb

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $207.93, which was 5.22 higher compared to previous Friday. The increase was helped by another big jump in the daily Choice rib primal that was $14 dollars per cwt. higher during the week, then continued to climb even more.  Additionally, the daily Choice cutout climbed to $210.28 on Tuesday, October 23.

The weekly average Choice cutout which includes all types of sales including the daily Choice cutout was $202.60, just $.94 higher, but it did regain a little more than it lost last week continuing to be very level lately. It is higher than the previous two years.

The big news this week was that there were 7,589 total loads sold for the week which was 737 loads higher than the previous week. It was really helped by much bigger numbers in out-front type sales again this week, which were over 2,000 loads.
