Declining prices limit feeder cattle movement

Audio-Declining prices limit feeder cattle movement

Feeder cattle prices were steady to $5 lower.

Feeder cattle numbers continue to drop at the auctions due primarily to continued declining prices. There were 24,100 head at the test auctions which was down 8,000 head from the previous week, but 16,000 head lower than last year. However, this is a somewhat typical situation when prices drop as much as they have in recent weeks. Prices were basically steady to $5 lower but mostly $3-5 lower following last week's declines.

Slaughter cow numbers at the auctions continue to be very similar to the previous week with 8,100 head at the test auctions. Prices were mostly steady to $2 lower with a couple auctions just a little higher which leveled out the prices more between the different regions.
