Fall volume continues to increase

Audio-Fall volume continues to increase

We typically see more feeder cattle and slaughter cows at auction barns during the fall and this week was no exception.

Feeder cattle numbers continue their normal fall increases in volume with 30,700 head at the seven test auctions. The prices were mostly steady to $5 higher with the biggest increases on weaned calves. Yearling prices were closer to steady with some higher and some lower.

Slaughter cow numbers continue to be big which is always normal during the fall. The slaughter cow prices were $2-4 lower losing more than they gained last week and no doubt on the heels of the recent big dip in cow meat prices.
