Feeder cattle move off Flint Hills, prices lower

Market analyst Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

Feeder cattle numbers at USDA test auctions were 5,000 head higher which was about the same as last year as cattle moved off of the Flint Hills and Osage grazing areas. Prices were mostly $1- $4 lower, but there was some improvement late last week and early Monday.

Slaughter cow prices were $1-$2 higher, even though cow meat prices were either side of steady and cow numbers improved at the auctions this week.
