Feeder cattle numbers buck seasonal trend

It's typically a slower month at test auctions, but feeder cattle decided to buck the trend and nearly 8,000 more head were recorded than this week last year.

There was a very large run of feeder cattle at the test auctions this week, some 8,000 head higher than last year, at the time of the year when numbers usually drop. Prices were very uneven with some higher and some lower.

As far as slaughter cow numbers, markets continue to see high volume and prices were mostly steady to $1 lower as cow meat prices dropped quite a bit on Wednesday. Cow prices varied depending on the what the cow cutout was each day.
