Feeder cattle prices start to drop

Audio-Feeder cattle prices start to drop

Feeder cattle were up to $5 lower on 7-weight steers, but cow prices held steady as cow meat prices firmed.

There was another good summer run of feeder cattle at the test auctions with 27,600 head. The prices started to drop lower and were mostly steady to $2 lower but the 7-weight steers were up to $5 lower. Also thinner type cattle coming off of dry pastures in some areas were definitely bringing a premium compared to the bulk of the prices.

Slaughter cow numbers at the auctions continue to be very close to the previous week. Prices were mostly steady but were a little higher on some cows as the cow meat prices firmed up a little.
