Meat Market Update | Boxed beef drops, steady with last year

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The weekly average Choice cutout, which includes all types of sales, including the daily Choice cutout was $210.55, which was $1.92 lower. This was about $4.50 lower the last two weeks which pushed it down closer to last year after a boost as we kicked off 2019. The normal seasonal trend during the next 4 to 6 weeks is often quite level with some bouncing up and down. The grilling season rally starts to push it much higher during March.
