Meat Market Update | Choice cutout hits 2019 high

The Choice boxed beef cutout hit $241.70 mid-week, a new high for 2019.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday a $238.69, which was $22.32 higher compared to previous Friday and the highest prices for this year. It continued to increase to $241.70 by Tuesday, August 20. The same Friday last year it was $211.38. Last year's price was almost $5 higher during that week last year, so it is way above last year now.

The weekly average Choice cutout, which includes all types of sales including the daily Choice cutout, was $218.20 which was $6.32 higher and it continues well above last year also. However even with that rally this week, it was about $20 lower than the daily Choice cutout on Friday because there were only 665 loads of daily cutout sales during the week, compared to 6735 total loads sold for the week.
