Meat Market Update | Choice cutout volume jumps higher

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of last week's beef trade.

The weekly average Choice cutout, which includes all types of sales, including the daily Choice cutout was $226.19, only $1.23 lower even though the daily Choice cutout was $5.75 lower during the same week. It is still not quite as high as the daily cutout yet, but it is also still way above last year.

There were 7,137 total loads sold for the week which was 533 loads higher than the previous week. That was a very good sales volume, especially compared to only 521 loads for the weekly total of the daily cutout. This is a reminder of why we always talk about the weekly average Choice cutout because it has the biggest impact on fed cattle prices.
