Meat Market Update | Fall rally spikes ahead of 2017

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The weekly average Choice cutout -- which includes all types of sales, including the daily Choice cutout -- was $201.66, $.73 lower than the previous week. However, it was still helped some by the weekly average Choice rib primal which was $9 higher, helping to offset part of the other primal declines. It continues to run the normal seasonal fall spike well ahead of the last year. This fall spike has always been related to the big sales of prime-rib type of products which are bought ahead of the Christmas party season.
