Meat Market Update | Grilling demand is back, rib primal pushes higher

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $205.14 which was 97 cents higher compared to previous Friday. The daily Choice rib primal ended the week $4 higher and then continued to increase even more; no doubt due to a return to grilling demand. However the daily loin primal was $5 lower, which unfortunately, offset the rib increase. The daily Choice chuck and round primals were both a little higher which helped the cutout improve. Last year the cutout’s big drop stopped some this week but then started to decline more again during August. Will we see a similar trend in 2018? Stay tuned to market audio reports from Ed to find out.
