Meat Market Update | More available product as cutout continues decline

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The Choice cutout continues to decline, but at least the volume of sales has improved during the last month. We are currently waiting for the normal rebound that we get ahead of Labor Day, but unfortunately for the beef industry, it just has not started yet. The weekly estimated FIS cattle harvest numbers were 634,000 head, which was 51,000 head over the same week last year and pushed the year-to-date total over one million head higher than last year which contributes to more available product.
