Meat Market Update | Retailers stocked for grilling kick-off, prices stabilize

Video-Meat Market Update | Retailers stocked for grilling kick-off, prices stabilize

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $226.99 which was $0.86 higher compared to previous Friday, but had been above $228 on Tuesday and Wednesday, then it rebounded above $228 on Monday, March 18.

The daily Choice rib primal ended the week on Friday about $2 higher for the week making it about $35 higher in six week's time. The Choice loin primal was $1 higher during the week. Both helped to widen the Choice-Select spread.

However, we usually see a little decline in the Choice cutout in the coming days until we approach the Memorial Day buying period because the retail buyers have already loaded up on product.
