Meat Market Update | Rib and loin primal slides; could be worse

Farther's Day grilling is behind us and the market slide has begun. Will it be as bad as 2018? It's a question that is up in the air.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $219.82 which was $2.41 lower compared to previous Friday. The same day last year it was $217.16.

The daily Choice rib and loin primal were $5-6 lower, but not dropping near as much as it did last year when the rib primal was $18 lower during that one week. In fact, the daily Choice rib primal, which is the main driving force every year for the grilling rally dropped over $51 lower during the last three weeks of June last year.  We'll have to watch this trend closely from here forward. Grilling does not slow down much, but many families use more hamburger, sausage, and hot dogs during the hot days of summer, rather than primal cuts.
