Meat Market Update | Steak sales continue to boost cutout

Video-Meat Market Update | Steak sales continue to boost cutout

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The weekly average Choice cutout, which includes all types of sales including the daily Choice cutout, was $226.45. This was up $2.51, pushing the cutout higher than it was at this time last year. It has definitely been helped by the weekly average Choice rib primal and loin primal that were both $4 higher, following normal seasonal increases, but also above last year. Both these cuts normally continue to climb until around Memorial Day or Father’s Day when those grilling steak sales are completed.
