Meat Market Update | Volume leads the way

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of last week's beef cutout trade.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week on Friday at $215.64 which was $4.25 lower compared to previous Friday. Last year, it was $216.97. During this current week, the daily Choice chuck and round primal ended the week about $4-5 lower, but the Choice rib was $12 lower and the loin was steady. The weekly total for the daily cutout was 838 loads which was about 11% of the weekly total loads sold. 

The weekly average Choice cutout which includes all types of sales, including the daily Choice cutout was $213.72 which was $4.79 lower.

There were 7,348 total loads sold for the week which was 1,348 loads higher than the previous week.
