Meat Market Update with Ed Czerwien

Meat Market Update | Weekly cutout declines

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The weekly average Choice cutout that includes all types of sales including the daily cutout was $3.17 lower, but the daily choice cutout was steady to firm as the daily rib primal started to improve after Friday, which is normal as we approach Father’s Day. The main reason that the weekly average declined was that many formula sales were based off of the previous weeks daily sales that were lower. Additionally, the out-front sales included some big declines in prices. As previously mentioned, the cutout normally sees a rebound as the Father’s Day and Fourth of July sales become a bigger part of the sales.
