Post-holiday run brings more cattle to auction barns

In typical post-holiday week fashion, ranchers were quick to bring feeders and slaughter cattle to town after Memorial Day shutdowns.

There was very good post-holiday week run of feeder cattle with 47,000 head at test auctions. Compare this to 19,900 head the previous week when many auctions were shut down on Memorial Day. Prices were mostly $2-5 higher.

The slaughter cow numbers jumped much higher with 7,600 head at the test auctions compared to only 3,000 head last week. Prices were mostly $1-3 higher but cow meat prices did start to drop on Wednesday after being very high.
