Prices improve on slaughter cows and feeder calves

It was the first big run since Christmas and not only was volume impressive, but prices were higher, too.

There was a good run at the test auctions with 43,600 head of feeder cattle. The current prices are compared to the last good test which was prior to Christmas; they were mostly $2-5 higher on calves but mixed for yearlings with some higher and some lower.

There also was a good run of cows with 10,800 head at the 20 test auctions, but that does include more bred cows which is normal this time of the year. Prices are starting to improve compared to pre-Christmas runs as cow meat prices improve.
