Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up | Feeder cattle drop as buyers react to tumbling prices

USDA Market Reporter Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

Feeder cattle prices were mostly steady to $3 lower as buyers react quickly to dropping box beef prices, fed cattle prices and CME futures prices. The receipts at the test auctions took their normal seasonal decline in volume, but were quite a bit lower than last year.
The slaughter cow prices were wild in some areas that were short in numbers early in the week because those 90% trimmings which jumped from $217 last Wednesday to $220 for four days, but then it dropped down to $215 on Wednesday this week. There were some areas that had big numbers of cows on the day that the 90's dropped showed prices were steady to weak.
