Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up | Feeder cattle rally as receipts decline

USDA Market Reporter Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

Feeder cattle receipts took s normal decline after the wheat insurance deadline on March 15, with 39,200 head compared to over 54,000 head the previous week. Prices started the week out steady to $3 higher then exploded $3-6 higher on Wednesday with the big rally on the futures.
Slaughter cows had a big run with 7,700 head at our test auctions, which was 1,000 head higher but prices were $1-3 higher partially due to feeder cow type buyers bidding against the packer buyers.
