Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up

Weekly Cattle Market Wrap-Up | Negative news pushed feeder cattle prices lower

USDA Market Reporter Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

Feeder cattle prices were $4-$7 lower with instances $10-$12 lower on the heels of three big negative reports. Cold storage showed beef up quite a bit, the cattle on feed report showed big placements and the cattle inventory report showed bigger numbers with continued expanding cowherd and calf crop.
Turning to slaughter cows, we saw another big run of cows again with 9,200 head at the test auctions, but it included quite a few bred cows again which is normal this time of the year. The bulk of the slaughter cow prices were steady to $1 higher and cow meat prices improved. The bulk of the bred cow prices were reported again this week.
