Winter weather continues to influence slaughter cow prices

Winter weather continues to hold cattle home; both slaughter cow and feeder cattle movement was slower this past week.

Feeder cattle numbers at the test auctions were 30,800 head which was down about 12,000 head from the previous week. Prices were steady to $3 higher on lighter weights, but steady to $2 lower on yearlings.

Cow numbers at the test auctions were 6,200 head which was down quite a bit due to storms in many areas and the prices were mostly $1-3 higher. There continues to be bigger differences in prices between regions yet because of the influence of the weather conditions.
