Jan 16 Cattle Market Wrap up

Audio-Jan 16 Cattle Market Wrap up

Ed Czerwien gives a weekly market roundup.

Another big run of feeder cattle with 45,900 head at the test auctions which was slightly higher than last week but 5000 head higher than last year.  The prices were mostly 2-5 lower but there were some higher prices on thin weaned fancy calves since the stocker buyers were building inventories for the upcoming grazing season.

The slaughter cow numbers dropped down with 6800 head at the test auctions which was down about 3000 head from the previous week which was a very big post-holiday run.  The prices were starting to level out between the regions and were mostly steady to 1 higher but dairy cow prices were higher rebounding from last week's drops.  However those western auctions that had very big increased prices last week dropped back down closer to the other regions.
