Post holiday jump brings more feeders to town

Audio-Post holiday jump brings more feeders to town

Feeder cattle volume was higher, but prices crashed and ended up mostly $3-6 lower.

As expected, there was big jump in volume at test auctions after Memorial Day with 34,400 head of feeder cattle. This was up over 20,000 head from last week. However, prices crashed again and were mostly $3-6 lower with the biggest drop on the heifers over 700 lbs.

There was also a very big run of cows at the test auctions with 9,200 head following the Memorial Week shutdowns. Prices were steady to $2 higher but some auctions in the West with very active bidding on feeding type cows were easily $3-5 higher.
