The overall crop condition of both corn and soybeans has fallen again.

The weekly crop progress report shows the amount of corn rated in good condition across the country fell 3% from last week and soybeans fell 2%. The report showed 52% of the corn in good condition, 13% in excellent and 25% in fair condition. Last year at this time, 58% of the corn crop was good, 18% excellent and 19% in fair condition.

The amount of corn in the silking stage is behind where it was last year and the four-year average. The report states 19% of the crop is silking. That’s down from the 27% average or the 30% from 2016.

North Carolina and Tennessee lead the way with 87% and 81%. Meanwhile, Texas reports 65%, Kentucky 59% and Missouri 51%. In Kansas, 36% is silking and Illinois farmers report 33%.
