Youth Honored For Beef Video

Benjamin Owen knows how to handle cattle — and a camera.

The teenager was the recent grand prize winner in the National 4-H Film Festival's documentary category. Ben shot, wrote, edited and produced a video titled '60 Years of Better Beef,' about the 60th anniversary of the Clarksville Area Better Beef Show. He received his award at the first-ever National 4-H Film Festival August 1-3, 2011 in Branson, MO.

"It was produced in 2010 as a 4-H SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) project during my senior year," Owen says. "It took eight months to make the documentary. I first videotaped the weigh-in held in December. The show is always held in May. I then wrote an outline for the video in January, and the final product was complete about the first of August."

The video includes footage of cattle and the show, as well as interviews with 4-H'ers, University of Tennessee Extension agents and others associated with the event.
