Muddy conditions hold stocker prices steady

Producers continue to battle tough weather conditions and while the muddy conditions did cause some weakness in stocker prices, feeder cattle volume was still over 40,000 head.

Feeder cattle numbers drop down from last week’s very big run but still over 40,000 head at the test auctions. Prices for the yearling cattle were $1-6 higher especially on the heavier weights over 800 lbs. that reported larger numbers. Stocker type cattle were close to steady with some weakness as the mud conditions really impacts the bidding on the lighter weights.

Slaughter cow numbers jumped very high with over 9,000 head at the test auctions and prices were higher than two weeks ago, but still a little lower than last week during those big storms.
