More Cattle on Feed Than Last Year

South Dakota's 1,000-plus-capacity feedlots reported 235,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on Dec. 1, up 15,000 head from a year earlier and up 30,000 head from Nov. 1, according to the South Dakota office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Placements during November totaled 67,000 head, up 10,000 head from last year and up 2,000 head from October 2009, according to the statistics service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Marketings of fed cattle during November totaled 35,000 head, unchanged from last year but down 19,000 head from October 2009.
