Manna Pro announces horse treat formulated for senior horses

Manna Pro Products has introduced the first horse treat on the market that is specifically formulated for the needs of older horses.

Packed with anti-oxidants, vitamins, and a natural source of glucosamine, SeniorSnax Horse Treats offer health benefits that can help with skin and coat condition, while also promoting joint and hoof health and offering more bonding opportunities between horse and owner, the company said.

A recent study indicates that nearly two-thirds of horse owners are concerned about care of the senior horse (Source: 2012 AHP Equine Industry Survey). The study also reveals that more than 60 percent of horse owners care for one or more “senior” horses (16 years or older). Manna Pro reviewed the AHP study and others, and also conducted its own research during the development of SeniorSnax.

“We recognized there is a big consumer need for a snack product that addresses common conditions in older horses,” said Carolyn Adams, brand manager at Manna Pro. “Now people can feel good about giving snacks to their horses every day, knowing they are providing a healthy option. And as horses age and can no longer be ridden, the relationship between horse and owner becomes more about friendship. What better way to nurture that friendship than to reward your horse with a healthy treat?”

SeniorSnax contains ground flaxseed, a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids that help produce a vibrant coat. It also contains biotin to support healthy hoof tissue, and a natural source of glucosamine for joint health. Enriched with Vitamins C and E, important anti-oxidant nutrients, SeniorSnax is an easy-to-chew, apple-flavored, heart-shaped treat that can be fed to horses several times daily.

“We know from product trials conducted earlier this year that horses enjoy the flavor and texture of SeniorSnax treats,” Adams said. “Feeding treats to your horse is an ideal way to enhance the bond that you have with your horse. Personally, I enjoy giving my horse a treat every day, and he loves it, too.”

Since horses can live into their 30’s, many will be considered “seniors” for more than half their lives. “The benefits of a nutrient-rich diet, including treats, are numerous and can help aging horses enjoy optimal health for many years,” Adams said.
