Meat Market Update | Choice primal rib prices hold up during Labor Day push

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The average Choice cutout dropped only 27 cents this week even though the daily cutout dropped over $1. The box beef sales volume was about 100 loads lower than last week even though the out-front sales and exports together dropped over 250 loads, which means current domestic sales were slightly better than the previous week. The Choice primal rib prices held up very well since the Labor Day grilling demand for steaks continued.
