Meat Market Update | Cutout lower as seasonal declines continue

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $211.96 which was $5.20 lower compared to previous Friday and then continued to drop lower the following Tuesday. It had topped out at $232 during mid-May and it is following the big declines that took place most previous years that lasted until fall. As previously mentioned, the daily Choice Rib primal, which is the main driving force for the grilling rally, finished the week on Friday $24 lower compared to the previous Friday, but it had dropped $51 during the last three weeks. It normally continues to drop until it will level out some. Unfortunately, it rarely rallies again until the next big Christmas season starts.
