Meat Market Update | Grilling season rally can't quite top 2017

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $228.30 which was $6.56 higher compared to previous Friday and has jumped $16 in two weeks on the heels of Choice Rib and Loin primals, which have increased $31-38 in two weeks. The daily Choice cutout then continued to climb above $230 by Tuesday, May 8th. However, the daily Choice cutout started the week only 4 cents lower than last year, but ended the week on Friday over $10 lower than last year, so a good grilling season rally but not quite as good as last year.
