Meat Market Update | Thanksgiving turkey & ham demand pushes beef sales lower

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The weekly average Choice cutout was 46 cents higher even though the daily spot Choice cutout dropped over $4 because of the buffering impact of the Formula sales that were 55% of the total sales. The total sales slipped lower but that is normal this time of the year just prior to Thanksgiving because of turkey and ham sales.
