Bale hoop feeder

The Bale Hoop Feeder from Winkel Mfg., Glen Elder, KS, uses a unique bale suspension design to keep hay off the ground and save up to 20% of hay bales. The design restricts cattle from pulling hay out of the feeder and onto the ground, and the suspension is made of 12, ¼-in. chains attached to 12 reinforced plates behind sheet metal for strong, solid construction. The feeder holds a one-ton bale and has 18 feeder spaces with angled bars. The unit can be turned upside down to better feed smaller cattle with lower access height. The 500-lb. feeder features an 8½-ft. diameter and 68-in. height.

Micotil® label updates

Elanco's Micotil is now approved for a flexible dose range from 10-20 mg/kg (1.5-3.0 mL/cwt.) for both metaphylaxis and individual pull-and-treat treatment for bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Also included is a new 42-day withdrawal time, regardless of dose, and maximum injection site volume of 10 mL.

New treatment claims include Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni, as well as Mannheimia haemolytica. Micotil is still indicated for the control of BRD associated with M. haemolytica.

“The recent label change gives producers and animal-health professionals the opportunity to adjust the dose of Micotil upward, if needed, due to increased BRD risk in certain groups of cattle,” says Jared Gould, DVM, Elanco.

Rugged panels

Trusscore PVC liner panels for wall and ceiling applications are the latest addition to TVM's building products line. The ½-in.-thick, rugged, lightweight panels provide high strength and excellent spanning capabilities, while the tongue-and-groove design allows for quick and easy installation. Prepunched nailing flanges hide all fasteners once installed. Durable and washable, Trusscore surfaces are resistant to scratches, moisture and most chemicals. Panels are 12 in. wide and available in 12- and 16-ft. lengths; custom sizes are also available.

Vertical mixer series

The Roto-Mix Cyclone HDS series vertical mixer line utilizes double-flighted augers and a hydraulic drive system to mix rations faster. The hydraulic drive system reacts to keep the tractor operating at its most efficient engine speed regardless of auger loading and/or available tractor horsepower, while double flighting on each of the twin augers boasts two pickup points to move more material with each revolution. The mixers feature a 42-in.-wide conveyor with heavy-duty chain and slats for faster feedout, and assembly for either right- or left-hand discharge. The mixers are available in three trailer models — the 1105 HDS (1,100-cu.-ft. capacity), 1355 HDS (1,350 cu. ft.), and 1505 (1,500 cu. ft.)

BVD-PI testing

Destron Fearing and Animal Profiling International (API) announce a joint program to increase animal testings for persistent infection with bovine viral diarrhea (BVD-PI). API will provide special BVD-PI test pricing to producers who purchase Destron Fearing cattle tags this spring.

Testing is simple and straightforward, the companies say. During spring processing and tagging time, a small ear notch sample inserted into a test tube marked with the calf's ear tag number is sent to API. Instructions for shipping of samples to API are included in most Duflex® brand cattle ear tag retail bags, and test results are received the next business day after the sample is received by the lab.
