Meat Market Update | Box beef cutout holds steady

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week at $197.22 which was only 60 cents higher compared to previous Friday, pulled up by another $15 rally in the daily Choice rib primal. The cutout improved a little more on the following Monday but started to decline on Tuesday, similar to last year's trends. The weekly average Choice cutout, which includes all types of sales including the daily spot cutout, was $193.38 about 0.89 cents higher. However, the weekly average has not improved near as much as the daily spot cutout recently and was no doubt modified by the other types of sales.
