Meat Market Update | Grilling demand pulls prices higher

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily Choice Rib and Loin primals turned around and regained $10-$14, pulling the daily Choice cutout $4.86 higher by Friday as grilling product demand improves again. The Choice-Select spread ended the week on Friday at $12.60 which was $2.87 higher than the previous Friday and was also supported by sales of Choice steak meats for grilling. Last year this spread topped out over $20 during June which once again identifies demand for Choice products this time of the year.
